PurposeThe resources in the IT-Senteret are available to all students to use in connection with their studies. A user account is assigned to all full time and part time students that can document a need .

User Account
This account is for personal use only and must not be shared nor transferred to anyone.

Other Users
A user's files are considered
personal domain, which should only be accessed with permission of the owner, or it is obvious that the files are of a public nature.

PC Laboratories
PC laboratories (EDB rooms) are considered work/study rooms where the atmosphere should be such that it is possible to work with minimal disturbance.
Food/drinks are not allowed in these labs.
A notice of availability will be posted.
Users must abide by these notices.
It is forbidden to alter the menu or setup on the computers.

Use of resources
Since the number of computers and the amount of storage capacity are limited, the use of these resources must be allocated in the best possible way.
Therefore, the use of storage space on the server is limited to the M-area.
Laser printers are quite costly to use.
If several copies are needed, use a copy machine.
Activities that are not academically related must not interfere with the use of the computers for study related purposes.
The use of any college equipment for commercial gain is absolutely forbidden without special permission.

The Internet
Use the Internet with care.
Be sure to use the Internet in such a way that it does not reflect negatively on you or the college.
The consequences of inappropriate use of the Internet could lead the college to discontinue this service.
Heavy Internet traffic must be done after HiM office hours.

Electronic mail
All students at the college have access to electronic mail. E-mail must not be sent to unknown recipients or to address lists that are not authorized for your use.
5.2
Copyright laws
Concerning materials such as music, publications, pictures, etc. made public over the Internet, the following guidelines should be followed:
It is the responsibility of the student to determine whether material used on their home page violates copyright laws. If a student wishes to use copyright material, the student must obtain the necessary permission to do so. The student will be personally responsible for any legal action or financial penalty claimed under the copyright laws for unauthorized use.

File transferring
Commercial software must not be downloaded without permission from the supplier.

The guidelines for ethical and acceptable use are defined by Uninett.

Information
Messages, announcements and the like sent electronically from the IT-Senteret or the college administration to groups of students is the same as
sending it to each student personally.

Breach of these guidelines
Breach of these guidelines can lead to the lost of the student's privilege to use the college's computer resources.

Conclusion
Remember that just because it is possible does not mean that it is permissible.
Use common sense.
Therefore, if you are uncertain whether you are using the resources according to the rules of good practice and acceptable use, you should ask the appropriate person (datavakt) or the IT-Senteret.
