Fjord Conference 2026 invites empirical and theoretical contributions that provide concrete examples of such struggles, helping us to understand cultures in transition. There are many topical examples.
Within professional culture we see debates about who should do what and where the boundaries lie. Relevant examples include the distribution of tasks in hospitals, the authority to define which values are prioritized in hospital management, and how new technology changes professional practice.
Another pertinent example is what it means to be a practitioner and who should perform which tasks when the maritime industry adopts new technology. In academia, relevant examples include the emphasis on quantitative publication metrics versus longer‑term projects. In teaching, one might raise discussions about what constitutes teaching, debates around full‑time students, or how the interplay between formative and summative assessment in the education sector is affected when students can use AI.
These are only some examples of how discussions about practice can encompass deeper cultural questions about who we are and which values matter. Fjord Conference invites contributions that foreground such discussions across different fields.
