  The aim of this article is to conduct a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the existing literature in the domain of new software product development. The research methodology is based on bibliometrics, cluster analysis and meta-analysis of key indicators of knowledge dissemination and publications about the new software product in the Scopus scientometric database for 2003–2022.Through bibliometric analysis, this study provides valuable information on the trends, patterns and impact of research and publications in the field of new software product development. Based on the literature reviewed, known research areas, influential authors and new directions are identified, thus providing a comprehensive overview of the current state of knowledge in the field of new software product development. The number of publications dedicated to new software products has steadily increased over the past two decades, indicating a growing interest in this field among researchers and scholars. The United States, China, and Germany emerged as the leading countries in terms of the number of publications, highlighting their strong presence in software development and technological advancements. Meta-analysis demonstrates the significant impact of Engineering, Mathematics, and Social Sciences on the publication count of the new software product. Overall, the findings highlight the widespread interest and interdisciplinary nature of software product development, with particular emphasis on the role of Computer Science and Engineering in driving advancements in this domain. The conducted bibliometric analysis can serve as a basis for further research and help researchers and practitioners to identify knowledge gaps and directions for future research.

  Introduction: This study investigates local food producers’ economic sustainability by examining the impact of six variables: external and internal barriers, the number of economic operators, the imbalance of power, the number of distribution options, and waste. Methods: The investigation uses mixed methods of questionnaires and interviews. The data was collected using a self-completed questionnaire, which was answered by 57 local food producers across Norway, and four semi-structured interviews with professionals in the food industry. The quantitative data was analyzed with the use of partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), and the qualitative data was analyzed using a thematic analysis. Results: The study has statistically confirmed three out of eight hypotheses. The three hypotheses show that when the number of economic operators in the supply chain increases and also imbalances in the sales channels increase. Additionally, the imbalance of power in the sales channels has a negative effect on economic sustainability, and external barriers have a negative effect on the imbalance of power in the sales channels. The interviews supported seven of the hypotheses, although four of them were not supported. Discussion: The empirical evidence presented in this study indicates that the lack of balance within the supply chain exerts a substantial influence on the economic sustainability of local food producers. By adopting a comprehensive approach, this research demonstrates that a more holistic perspective leads to enhanced economic sustainability. Additionally, it elucidates the diverse ways in which various factors impact the economic sustainability of local food produce.

  Seagoing vessels require regular maintenance. Preventive maintenance can be planned ahead of time, and can be executed either at sea or while visiting a port. The spare parts used when performing maintenance can come from warehouses that store the parts until needed at a port, but they can also come from on-vessel storages. Some spare parts must be available on a vessel at all times, in the case that corrective maintenance is required. This chapter considers liner shipping, where each vessel follows a pre-planned itinerary and a number of preventive maintenance tasks have been scheduled over time. A mathematical model is proposed that can be used to decide where to store spare parts, how many spare parts to keep in inventory, when to order spare parts from suppliers, and when and where to perform the scheduled maintenance tasks. Numerical experiments show that the model can be solved very quickly. The model can thus be used as a tool to support making decisions related to inventory management for spare parts.

  In the ever-evolving healthcare landscape, the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology presents significant opportunities for enhancing patient care and streamlining operational workflows. This study adopts the action research methodology to explore the transformative impact of AI, specifically leveraging data fusion techniques, on remote chronic patient care. Our research yields promising results, achieving 94% accuracy in predicting heart rate abnormalities using Neural Networks and 87.6% for Facial Expression classification through Convolutional Neural Networks. A critical observation from the state-of-the-art indicates that existing studies predominantly focus on remote patient monitoring, leaving a substantial gap in addressing the needs of caregivers and medical staff. Our findings demonstrate that AI, integrated into remote home care monitoring systems, has the potential to alleviate caregiver workloads by enabling continuous patient monitoring and timely alerts. The automation of data extraction and analysis enhances healthcare professionals’ decision-making capabilities, ultimately improving patient outcomes while alleviating the burdens of manual data entry.

  How long will transport infrastructure generate benefits for the society (the appraisal period) is an essential assumption in transport appraisals. However, there are considerable differences in the recommended appraisal periods used in cost–benefit analysis between countries. In this paper, we therefore examine how long transport infrastructure was used in the past before it was replaced, closed, or substantially improved. We label this period the ex-post appraisal period. The study considers rail and roads in Norway and analyses how long they were used using the statistical technique survival analysis. The results show that motorways build in the 1960s was used around 40 years before being upgraded, while most of railroad infrastructure have lasted more than 100 years. If these results are applicable for the future use it may indicate that the use of long appraisal periods (more than 50 years) in some countries could be optimistic for roads and rather conservative for railroads.

  The appraisal stage is crucial to the later success of transport infrastructure megaprojects. Stakeholders must be engaged early to protect their interests. This article analyses power dynamics and rationalized knowledge in long-term timelines and trajectories using critical discourse analysis. It examines a case where powerful stakeholders directly influenced decision-making. The Norwegian Public Road Authority planners helped local and regional community stakeholders collaborate over 13 years. This collaboration successfully advocated for a fixed-link concept alternative in the national transport plan. The findings suggest considering changes to the planning framework and local execution.

  This study contributes to the theory and practice of public procurement by examining the role of structural alignment in the implementation of public procurement of green innovations. Structural alignment is defined as the coherence and harmonization between strategic aspects of an organization. The organizational aspects examined in this study are strategic goals, structural and control mechanism, and adequacy of resources. The study draws on secondary survey data collected from 379 public-sector organizations in Norway. The analysis was conducted using a novel approach that combines partial least squares structural equation modeling and necessary condition analysis. There is a positive and significant relationship between strategic goals and structural and control mechanism; between structural and control mechanism and adequacy of resources; and between the adequacy of resources and the attainment of public procurement of green innovations. The findings support the structural alignment hypothesis in that the presence of strategic goals results in the implementation of the public procurement of green innovations if structure, control, and adequate resources are in place. Finally, the results show that strategic goals are a necessary condition for enacting a corresponding structural and control design and that structural and control design are a necessary condition for allocating resources, which are themselves a necessary condition for the increased implementation of the public procurement of green innovations.

  Aquaculture is an important industry in certain coastal areas. Focusing on farming of salmon and trout, an operational planning problem arises with the goal of allocating supply of fish to demand expressed through customer orders. This paper provides a conceptual model of such a planning problem, defines a corresponding bi-objective mathematical programming model. The problem is novel with respect to the structure of the transportation of fish, and the rules for satisfying customer orders with respect to fish size, quality, certification, and health status. Computational experiments are conducted to gain further insights into the use of the provided model to provide support for planners involved in the operational decision making. Results indicate that the bi-objective optimization model can be useful in situations where supply is insufficient to cover all the demand within a given planning horizon.

  Numerous studies have attempted to identify how transport investments affect the overall economy. The results of these studies vary considerably. This variation has been explained by factors such as differences in estimation methods as well as differences among countries and sectors. This paper considers another explanation: low statistical power. By revisiting a previous meta-analysis, this paper shows that accounting for statistical power substantially reduces the estimate. Accounting for statistical power also reduces the relevance of estimation methods as well as country and sectoral differences. These results indicate that a larger data set than typically available is required to overcome the issue of low power. The implication of this is that the existing and, perhaps, future studies using macro data are of limited use to policymakers.

  The ongoing digital revolution in the healthcare sector, emphasized by bodies like the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is paving the way for a shift towards person-centric healthcare models. These models consider individual needs, turning patients from passive recipients to active participants. A key factor in this shift is Artificial Intelligence (AI), which has the capacity to revolutionize healthcare delivery due to its ability to personalize it. With the rise of software in healthcare and the proliferation of the Internet of Things (IoT), a surge of digital data is being produced. This data, alongside improvements in AI’s explainability, is facilitating the spread of person-centric healthcare models, aiming at improving health management and patient experience. This paper outlines a human-centered methodology for the development of an AI-as-a-service platform with the goal of broadening access to personalized healthcare. This approach places humans at its core, aiming to augment, not replace, human capabilities and integrate in current processes. The primary research question guiding this study is: “How can Human-Centered AI principles be considered when designing an AI-as-a-service platform that democratizes access to personalized healthcare?” This informed both our research direction and investigation. Our approach involves a design fiction methodology, engaging clinicians from different domains to gather their perspectives on how AI can meet their needs by envisioning potential future scenarios and addressing possible ethical and social challenges. Additionally, we incorporate Meta-Design principles, investigating opportunities for users to modify the AI system based on their experiences. This promotes a platform that evolves with the user and considers many different perspectives.

  We investigate factors that determine road users' experiences with congestion based on a questionnaire survey conducted in the Oslo area of Norway. The rationale is to add more knowledge on factors that determine users' experience with congestion. Furthermore, we use a succinct econometric framework to assess the data. We find that the following factors influence road users' experiences with congestion: (1) whether they experienced congestion on their reference trip; (2) how often road users undertake trips during congestion; (3) the extent to which road users had potential alternative modes of transport other than car use; (4) education; (5) whether respondents had time commitments at their destinations; (6) travel time used during their journey; (7) how often they experience congestion as a problem during their journey; (8) when participants begin to experience discomfort with congestion; and (9) age. The direction of these factors' impact on experience is explained in the results section. For example, those who did not experience congestion on their previous trip are 26 percentage points more likely to report a negative experience with congestion than those who did. The results provide new insight into the factors that determine road users' experience with congestion. Finally, we warn that one should not be indifferent regarding the logit models used, as the results can be quite different.

  In an increasingly complex everyday life, algorithms – often learnt from data, i.e. machine learning (ML) – are used to make or assist operational decisions. However, developers and designers usually are not entirely aware of how to reflect on social justice while designing ML algorithms and applications. Algorithmic social justice – i.e., designing algorithms including fairness, transparency, and accountability – aims at helping expose, counterbalance, and remedy bias and exclusion in future ML-based decision-making applications. How might we entice people to engage in more reflective practices that examine the ethical consequences of ML algorithmic bias in society? We developed and tested a Design Fiction-driven methodology to enable multi-disciplinary teams to perform intense, workshop-like gatherings to let emerge potential ethical issues and mitigate bias through a series of guided steps. With this contribution, we present an original and innovative use of Design Fiction as a method to reduce algorithmic bias in co-design activities.

  COVID-19 has represented a watershed in people's lifestyle. One important consequence has been the change in how people buy groceries online/offline that represent the most frequent shopping-related trip any household performs. Since this has substantially different transport and environmental implications, it is crucial to investigate what are the COVID-19-induced variations. This paper estimates both travel and environmental impacts grocery channel choice implies by comparing, in a diachronic fashion, the pre and during COVID-19 situation in Norway, considering alternative scenarios describing different service configurations for each channel considered. Stated preferences are used to estimate market shares for grocery purchase distinguishing between different channels: in-store, home delivery and click&pick. The robust comparative analysis between the two time periods is guaranteed by the use of the same methodological approach in the same geographical context. Results show that total emissions are lower during the pandemic and adopting a free delivery strategy not only increases home delivery market shares but also produces the lowest level of CO2 emissions regardless of COVID-19. The results obtained are particularly relevant in the "new normal" the world is experiencing both from a public policymaking perspective, when promoting transport-related interventions to curb emissions, and from a private standpoint, when customising market strategies to increase sales and profits.

  Purpose: As part of a national plan to govern professional and organizational development in Norwegian specialist healthcare, the country’s hospital clinics are tasked with constructing development plans. Using the development plan as a case, the paper analyzes how managers navigate and legitimize the planning process among central actors and deals with the contingency of decisions in such strategy work. Design/methodology/approach: This study applies a qualitative research design using a case study method. The material consists of public documents, observations and single interviews, covering the process of constructing a development plan at the clinical level. Findings: The findings suggest that the development plan was shaped through a multilevel translation process consisting of different contending rationalities. At the clinical level, the management had difficulties in legitimizing the process. The underlying tension between top-down and bottom-up steering challenged involvement and made it difficult to manage the contingency of decisions. Practical implications: The findings are relevant to public sector managers working on strategy documents and policymakers identifying challenges that might hinder the fulfillment of political intentions. Originality/value: This paper draws on a case from Norway; however, the findings are of general interest. The study contributes to the academic discussion on how to consider both the health authorities’ perspective and the organizational perspective to understand the manager’s role in handling the contingency of decisions and managing paradoxes in the decision-making process.

This study introduces an autonomous and agile smart hotel system, DASH-Decentralized Autonomous and Smart Hotel system, operating on a pay-per-use model, meticulously tracking the usage of amenities and utilities for patrons. The proposed system is an amalgamation of Internet of Things, Robots, Artificial Intelligence, and Blockchain, each enhancing trust, transparency, and underlying operations while reducing workforce and operational costs. This work distinguishes itself by focusing on the complete automation of hotels rather than merely complementing current activities with these technologies. Method: This research hinges on an extensive literature review, deepening the understanding of contemporary hospitality systems, technological advances, and emerging trends. Building on these insights, this work employed conceptual modelling to create a robust framework for the DASH system, strategically integrating decentralization, autonomy, and intelligence. This method bridges visionary ideals with practical implementation, shaping the future of hospitality through cutting-edge technology integration. Main Findings: DASH, as a Decentralized Autonomous and Smart Hotel System, successfully integrates disruptive technologies to create an innovative and automated hospitality experience. The pay-per-use model proves effective in tracking amenity and utility usage, ensuring a cost-efficient and tailored service for patrons. The amalgamation of Internet of Things, Robots, Artificial Intelligence, and Blockchain enhances trust, transparency, and operational efficiency within the hospitality institution. The study's approach of steering towards complete hotel automation distinguishes it from existing literature, showcasing a unique and forward-thinking perspective on the implementation of disruptive technologies in the hospitality sector.

  Given the severity and effects of global warming, countries are undertaking attempts to restrict emissions through research, carbon taxes, and other means and policies. Over the last decade, one promising emerging concept in the sharing economy has been crowdshipping. It is currently in its early phases, with little research on its sustainability, particularly while operating in inter-city or inter-urban areas. This study focuses on the sustainability assessment of inter-urban crowdshipping through a case study approach, where the existent literature is scarce. The research employs a multi method quantitative approach with a case study, where descriptive analysis is used to explore the case company's operations. It addresses the other research questions by performing environmental and financial impact assessment considering two relevant scenarios with postal services and transporter operations. Data from the carrier's (Nimber AS, Norway) platform were extracted over 6 months and complemented with a survey for analysis. When compared to alternative scenarios in which 3 PL service providers are utilized, crowdshipping appeared to contribute to lower emissions. It also seemed to be more cost-effective for the users. Unpublished evidence from the ongoing EU LEAD project suggests that access to micro-hubs could be one important urban logistics policy instrument to enhance efficiency for crowdshipping platforms.

  Today, the world is transitioning from traditional energy to clean, renewable sources. The petroleum sector is to play a role in this transition by supporting material and energy needs related to developing new energy systems. It is, therefore, vital that in upcoming years, the petroleum sector runs in a smart and efficient way, which can be achieved by coordination and the meaningful integration of decision-making issues in petroleum supply chains (PSCs). The existing literature on PSC optimization reveals a research gap; specifically, there is an insufficient level of technological detail considered while planning capacities of new infrastructures and its impact on the efficiency of further operations, specifically in the push segment of the PSC. This paper proposes a mixed-integer nonlinear programming model for planning capacities and coordinating activities within the mentioned PSC segment. The infrastructure capacity planning model covers technological details such as hydraulics and pump systems’ operational efficiency. The results reveal that the proposed model and its technological decision-making criterion of minimizing energy consumption drive infrastructural choices and operational modes to achieve machinery performance close to the best efficiency point. Also, the computational results demonstrate how traditional (minimum-cost) approaches lead to inefficient energy use while producing and transporting hydrocarbons. The proposed framework aims to facilitate the preliminary design stage of projects undertaken by engineering contractors in the energy sector.

  Workshop 3 concentrated its discussion on critical factors for strategic transport planning, implementation, and service provision in the post-pandemic era. The workshop report makes a strong case for social and environmental considerations to be included in transport and land use planning. Bottom-up and top-down processes must converge, and policies that put focus on equity in transport planning are needed. In this also lies a recognition of the benefits of transport services for all and, in turn, the importance of threshold services that are inclusive. In the discussion on service improvement and wider benefits, there is a need to recognise the value of transport and distribution of resources. This is linked to better use of existing resources and working with methods that capture the value of transport improvements. Drawing on the discussion on service improvement, it is also recognised that there is a need to further develop objective decision-making tools that assess the outcomes of planned processes. This includes taking into account a wider social perspective in existing methods and further develop the existing tools traditionally used in transport planning.

  In this paper, we propose a novel approach for building a conversational agent for creating trigger-action rules and controlling smart objects inside smart environments, such as a smart home. Our approach integrates ChatGPT, a state-of-the-art pre-trained language model for open-domain dialogue generation, with Rasa, a popular open-source framework for developing task-oriented chatbots. We leverage ChatGPT's abilities to perform Natural Language Processing tasks through prompting and few-shot learning, and Rasa Open Source's features to handle intents, entities, forms, and execute actions. We design Rasa custom actions that invoke ChatGPT's API to process complex customization rules, manage conversational breakdowns and answer questions about the smart environment.

  The requirements elicitation process for socio-technical systems requires the involvement of diverse stakeholders with different backgrounds and skills. In these contexts, effective communication between business analysts and stakeholders can be supported by model-based requirements engineering (MoDRE) strategies, which leverage diagrammatic notations as a means for information exchange. [Question/Problem] Several diagrams and approaches exist to facilitate MoDRE. However, empirical evidence on their applicability to real-world contexts with a relevant social component, and going through a process of digitalisation, is limited. Furthermore, existing approaches do not evaluate the impact that the deployment of a novel digital system has on the process and its actors. [Principal idea/Results] The research outlined in this paper aims to evaluate the joint usage of typical requirements engineer notations, namely i*, class diagrams, and business process models in the elicitation of requirements for socially-intensive systems that are going through a transformative digitalisation process. We apply these notations to represent the system as-is, and the system to-be, with the goal of also evaluating the impact of digitalisation. We focus on living labs (networks of stakeholders in a socio-technical system) belonging to the agriculture domain, and provide a preliminary application on a farm that is introducing an AI-based irrigation system. [Contribution] The results show that effective communication with non-technical stakeholders is feasible with the envisioned approach. Although multiple iterations are required, agronomists and farmers are able to provide constructive feedback on the basis of the models. Furthermore, impacts in terms of additional/removed tasks and actors can be effectively characterised through business process models. As part of our overall project, we will refine the method, and then apply it in 20 living labs in the EU.

  Agricultural digitalisation presents socio-economic and technical challenges with double-edged effects, generating potential winners and losers. To minimise the risk of undesired consequences, it is important to early evaluate its impacts by adopting an interdisciplinary approach. This paper presents a methodology for conducting socio-technical process modelling in living labs, i.e., co-design environments constituted around an emerging problem, in agricultural areas. The methodology foresees the development of diagrams based on formal notations from software engineering and a step-by-step procedure for the co-creation of the models. To consolidate the methodology, we apply it to the case study of Pecorino Toscano, a living lab presently evaluating different technological solutions for livestock and cheese production. This preliminary evaluation reveals that the adopted approach is sufficiently flexible and effective for information exchange, and can be successfully applied in a co-design environment.

  In the last few years, text and voice-based conversational agents have become more and more popular all over the world as virtual assistants for a variety of tasks. In addition, the deployment on the market of many smart objects connected with these agents has introduced the possibility of controlling and personalising the behaviour of several connected objects using natural language. This has the potential to allow people, also those without a technical background, to effectively control and use the wide variety of connected objects and services. In this paper, we present an analysis of how conversational agents have been used to interact with smart environments (such as smart homes). For this purpose, we have carried out a systematic literature review considering publications selected from the ACM and IEEE digital libraries to investigate the technologies used to design and develop conversational agents for IoT settings, including Artificial Intelligence techniques, the purpose that they have been used for, and the level of user involvement in such studies. The resulting analysis is useful to better understand how this field is evolving and indicate the challenges still open in this area that should be addressed in future research work to allow people to completely benefit from this type of solution.

  Large-scale Text-to-image Generative Models (LTGMs) are a cutting-edge class of Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms specifically designed to generate images from natural language descriptions (prompts). These models have demonstrated impressive capabilities in creating high-quality images from a wide range of inputs, making them powerful tools for non-technical users to tap into their creativity. The field is advancing rapidly and we are witnessing the emergence of an increasing number of tools, such as DALL-E, MidJourney and StableDiffusion, that are leveraging LTGMs to support creative work across various domains. However, there is a lack of research on how the interaction with these tools might affect the users’ creativity and their ability to control the generated outputs.   Urban environments are characterized by a complex soundscape that varies across different periods and geographical zones. This paper presents a novel approach for analyzing nocturnal urban noise patterns and identifying distinct zones using mobile phone data. Traditional noise-monitoring methods often require specialized equipment and are limited in scope. Our methodology involves gathering audio recordings from city sensors and localization data from mobile phones placed in urban areas over extended periods with a focus on nighttime, when noise profiles shift significantly. By leveraging machine learning techniques, the developed system processes the audio data to extract noise features indicative of different sound sources and intensities. These features are correlated with geographic location data to create comprehensive city noise maps during nighttime hours. Furthermore, this work employs clustering algorithms to identify distinct noise zones within the urban landscape, characterized by their unique noise signatures, reflecting the mix of anthropogenic and environmental noise sources. Our results demonstrate the effectiveness of using mobile phone data for nocturnal noise analysis and zone identification. The derived noise maps and zones identification provide insights into noise pollution patterns and offer valuable information for policymakers, urban planners, and public health officials to make informed decisions about noise mitigation efforts and urban development.

By harnessing the vast amount of anonymized and aggregated mobile phone data, we present a predictive framework that offers valuable insights into urban dynamics. The methodology involves collecting and processing location-based data obtained from telecommunication operators. Using machine learning techniques, including clustering and spatiotemporal analysis, we developed models to identify patterns in people’s movements and concentration across various city regions. Our proposed approach considers factors such as time of day, day of the week, and special events to capture the intricate dynamics of urban activities. The predictive models presented in this paper demonstrate the ability to predict areas of high concentration of people, such as commercial districts during peak hours, as well as the people flow during the time. These insights have significant implications for urban planning, traffic management, and resource allocation. Our approach respects user privacy by working with aggregated and anonymized data, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations and ethical considerations. The proposed models were evaluated using real-world mobile phone data collected from a smart city environment in Lisbon, Portugal. The experimental results demonstrate the accuracy and effectiveness of our approach in predicting people’s movements and concentration. This paper contributes to the growing field of smart city research by providing a data-driven solution for enhancing urban planning and resource allocation strategies.   To minimize the negative impact of on-demand logistics, the EU-funded LEAD project is creating Digital Twins in six cities, testing different innovative solutions for shared-connected and low-emission logistics operations via a Living Lab approach. This paper presents the results of a survey carried out among 125 qualified participants/experts, to identify the factors that most influence urban freight transport and on-demand deliveries, broken down and analyzed by type of respondent (i.e., public/private sector or academia). The survey provides insights about the different sensitivities of practitioners, operators and experts with respect to the mechanisms that govern urban freight transport.   Blockchain is being actively discussed for business applications to digitalise supply chains. The still nascent level of blockchain adoption creates a difficulty to see the potential value that it may add to products and final consumers. Through a quantitative method, this study explores the impact of the traceability feature of products on the trust in the seller supermarket chain from the perspective of final consumers. Data from 417 questionnaires applied to buyers of fish was used to analyse such relation. Findings reveal the interest of final consumers towards traceable products and a positive relationship between the traceable information availability and the trust towards product.

People’s movements are retrieved from coarse-grained aggregated cellular network data without collecting sensitive information from mobile devices and users. These data were provided by a Portuguese cellular operator to the Lisbon City Council to characterize people movements in the city. In this sense, the mobile phones act as useful sensor devices for collecting rich spatiotemporal information about human movement patterns. The purpose of this research work is to create a machine learning-based data-driven approach that is able to receive anonymised data from telecommunication operators to provide a big picture about citizen mobility in the city and to identify patterns based on the collected data, in order to provide relevant information for city planning and events coordination. Some of the main applications of the proposed system are the coordination of big events and the management and control of commuting traffic.

  Although tourists generate a large amount of data (known as “big data”) when they visit cities, little is known about their spatial behavior. One of the most significant issues that has recently gained attention is mobile phone usage and user behavior tracking. A spatial and temporal data visualization approach was established with the purpose of finding tourists’ footprints. This work provides a platform for combining multiple data sources into one and transforming information into knowledge. Using Python, we created a method to build visualization dashboards aiming to provide insights about tourists’ movements and concentrations in a city using information from mobile operators. This approach can be replicated to other smart cities with data available. Weather and major events, for instance, have an impact on the movements of tourists. The outputs from this work provide useful information for tourism professionals to understand tourists’ preferences and improve the visitors’ experience. Management authorities may also use these outputs to increase security based on tourists’ concentration and movements. A case study in Lisbon with 4 months data is presented, but the proposed approach can also be used in other cities based on data availability. Results from this case study demonstrate how tourists tend to gather around a set of parishes during a specific time of the day during the months under study, as well as how unusual circumstances, namely international events, impact their overall spatial behavior.

It highlights the importance of data-driven approaches in identifying and managing POIs, enhancing visitor satisfaction, and driving economic growth. The paper reviews existing literature, discusses key concepts, and presents case studies to illustrate the role of POIs in smart cities and their influence on visitor behavior. Our major contribution is a data driven approach to extract useful information from real data to municipality decisions and understand the problem.   This paper develops a conceptual framework for digital transformation in the maritime ports sector. The study combines a systematic literature review and aggregate conceptual analysis to explicate drivers, barriers, and enablers of digital transformation. Our literature review is grounded in maritime ports’ existing albeit scant empirical evidence. Our attempt bridges the existing gap in ports literature review that has included articles from sources outside the maritime industry’s domain. We deploy aggregate conceptual analysis on 35 maritime port related empirical literature and rank emerging concepts with respect to digital transformation phenomenon. We then synthesize 32 concepts deemed essential for the effective implementation of digital transformation in the ports sector. In doing so, four thematic categories emerge: i) drivers, ii) barriers, iii) enablers, and iv) digital transformation idiosyncrasies in ports. In terms of contribution, this study is one of the earliest efforts to aggregate factors related to digital transformation in the maritime ports sector. Our findings provide actionable insights that enable managers of maritime ports, stakeholders, and policymakers to successfully navigate the digital transformation process. For researchers, directions for future research are offered.

To better fill this gap, this paper aims to provide a more complete picture of the Global Container Shipping Network (GCSN)’s evolution, based on our earlier works in MEL. In doing so, the GCSN, representing a snapshot of trade at the end of each quarter, from Q3/2011 to Q3/2017, is first constructed. The connectivity of ports and their respective trading communities are then extracted by the Container Port Connectivity Index and the Louvain algorithm, respectively. With our proposed framework, related players would be able to understand the growth of GCSN, as well as the impacts of maritime occurrences on the network of container shipping. Our computational results indicate that port connectivity and trading community structure gradually evolve according to the economic conditions that change over time and the evolution of GCSN could be well explained by these two explanatory variables. In this regard, ports in East Asia consistently dominate others in terms of both inbound and outbound connectivity, led by Shanghai and other major ports of mainland China. Furthermore, the formation of trading communities largely depends on trading patterns—rather than geographical locations—which is evident from the insolvency and mergers of communities in the North American region right after the expansion of the Panama Canal in 2016.

  Studenter sliter med opplevelse av ensomhet og 1/3 av studentene oppfyller kriteriene for en psykisk lidelse, særlig depressive episoder. Førsteårsstudentene sliter mest. Digital undervisning har økt markant fra før coronatiden. Det samme har opplevelsen av ensomhet og psykiske lidelser blant studenter. I ett førstesemesteremne i bachelorstudiet i marin logistikk og økonomi ved høgskolen i Molde ble undervisningen kun gitt fysisk. Dette hovedsakelig for å få flere studenter til campus og klasserom. Det ble det sett på om oppmøtegrad i forelesningene og også resultater fra videregående skole hadde innvirkning på karakterer gitt til eksamen i emnet. Det ble også sett på hvordan alder på studentene påvirket karakterer og også hvordan overgangen fra videregående skole til høgskole ble opplevd i forhold til alder. Resultatene viste at større oppmøtegrad gav signifikant bedre karakterer og at bedre karakterer fra videregående skole også var positivt korrelert med bedre karakterer i dette emnet. Videre så en at overgangen til høgskole for de studentene som kom rett fra videregående skole opplevdes større enn for eldre studenter. Studentene var fornøyde med emnet. Forelesninger ble ikke lagt ut digitalt – og studentene gav ikke utrykk for at de savnet dette.

  Le transizioni digitale ed ecologica costituiscono la risposta privilegiata alle sfide che la logistica urbana, i cui volumi di traffico sono aumentati a seguito della pandemia, pone alle città. La mobilità sostenibile delle merci, in particolare, punta su innovazioni tecnologiche che comportano, ad esempio, l’utilizzo di veicoli leggeri e meno inquinanti, una viabilità più sicura, un incremento del trasporto pubblico e condiviso, personalizzato, e comunque accessibile, oltre ad una massiccia e mirata rilevazione dei dati. La co-creazione, adozione e attuazione di tali misure richiede, infatti, la condivisione della conoscenza, della visione, degli obiettivi da parte di tutti gli stakeholders, sia pubblici sia privati, a livello locale, nazionale e comunitario, nonché del supporto attivo da parte degli operatori e dei cittadini. Questo capitolo esplora le più recenti innovazioni della logistica urbana, concentrandosi sui cambiamenti che è necessario indurre nel comportamento dei consumatori al fine di garantire la sostenibilità del sistema minacciata dalla rapida crescita dell’e-commerce. Si propone una panoramica con diverse misure potenzialmente adottabili discutendone il relativo impatto, in termini di sostenibilità, governance e management, per favorire un radicale mutamento nell’approccio alla pianificazione e alla gestione della logistica urbana che l’utilizzo delle nuove tecnologie rende ora possibile.   Blockchain is an technology with potential for supporting industrial applications with traceability and transparency. Unfortunately, the understanding necessary to make decisions regarding the adoption of the technology and to implement blockchain-based applications is still in short supply. We have designed and thought for two years an undergraduate course to help filling the talent gap that is undermining Blockchain adoption. The course is thought as a hands-on course, where students gain initial skills in developing supply management applications for the BSV blockchain. This paper describes the motivations and challenges of this course, discusses its main achievements and issues, and suggests guidelines to follow based on our observations and the student feedback.

  Denne artikkelen ser på mulige konsekvenser av innfasing av lavutslippsfly i perioden frem mot 2035. Ny teknologi er ett av flere virkemidler for å nå ambisiøse klimamålsettinger, der EU har et mål om klimanøytralitet i 2050. Målet med det arbeidet som denne artikkelen er basert på, har vært å vurdere om innføring av lavutslippsfly på det norske kortbanenettet kan være samfunnsøkonomisk lønnsomt. Vi fant at tiltaket ikke er samfunnsøkonomisk lønnsomt med dagens karbonpriser, men at det kan nærme seg lønnsomhet dersom en forventet framtidig 3-4-dobling av karbonprisen kommer vesentlig tidligere enn det som ligger til grunn for dagens offisielle prisbane. Det er fremdeles betydelig usikkerhet knyttet til både tekniske egenskaper og kostnader ved ny flyteknologi.

  This thesis is motivated by the pressing need to respond to climate change and sustainable development issues. Tackling environmental and social issues is becoming increasingly important for all businesses and industries at the local, national, and global levels. The thesis investigates how the concept of sustainability is being understood and addressed by Norwegian manufacturing companies and non-business organizations. This thesis is mainly positioned in the field of sustainable supply chain management (SSCM), informed by cluster theory. The empirical scope of the thesis is limited to regional companies in Møre and Romsdal County. This thesis consists of four papers, which together answer the research questions by offering a two-level analysis that covers both the focal company and industry-cluster levels. This thesis highlights the role of non-business organizations during the sustainability transition, namely, cluster organizations. The research in this thesis was carried out using a qualitative methodology in the form of semi-structured interviews, supplemented by data obtained from observations and secondary sources. The results of the study suggest that there have been limited attempts to interpret and operationalize the sustainability concept among companies and cluster organizations. This may represent a challenge, as different perceptions of sustainability could lead to a relatively narrow focus on single dimensions of sustainability. The findings suggest that the case companies do not perform comprehensive internal or external sustainability accounting and reporting. Regarding SSCM practices, limited information is shared between the case companies and their suppliers, which does not allow for traceability between suppliers and a focal company. The findings show that the studied managers do not consider the whole potential that digital technologies can bring to sustainability accounting operations. Furthermore, the thesis investigates the role of the cluster environment in companies’ sustainable development. The empirical findings suggest that past and present conditions influence the orientation of the industry and facilitate the implementation of sustainability practices. The thesis highlights the role of non-business organizations as sustainability enablers and barriers, as they may disseminate sustainability knowledge and visions, while, as policy implementers, they can support existing industry operations and hinder new developments. Finally, the findings indicate that disruptions such as a pandemic, war, and energy uncertainty can shape the transition toward sustainability. This thesis aims to contribute not only to the scientific community, but also to broader society, including practitioners from industry and policy-makers.

  I denne rapporten ser vi på hvordan ferjetilbudet blir behandlet i transportmodeller/transportanalyser og samfunnsøkonomiske analyser, spesielt betydningen av hvor ofte ferja går. En kartlegging av dagens praksis viser at det varierer mellom ulike modeller og verktøy hvilke antakelser en gjør om ulempe knyttet til ventetid på ferje. Resultater fra Verdsettingsstudien i 2018 viser at de reisende har en verdsetting av kortere tid mellom avganger som stemmer ganske godt med eksisterende litteratur om ulempe knyttet til ventetid. I et regne-eksempel viser vi at det å ta hensyn til dette i nytte-beregn¬ingene vil kunne gi høyere beregnet trafikant-nytte av et tiltak som erstatter ferje med fast forbindelse. Det samme vil gjelde tiltak som øker antallet ferjeavganger.

  Offentlige anskaffelser er viktig for å lykkes med det grønne skiftet. I denne rapporten har vi prøvd å avdekke hvilken kompetanse og kunnskap som er viktig for å lykkes med grønne anskaffelser i samferdselssektoren. I tillegg kommer vi med forslag på hvordan kunnskap og kompetanseheving kan utvikles. Datainnsamlingen er tredelt. Først er en del norske og internasjonale rapporter gjennomgått for å avdekke kunnskap og kompetansebehov. Videre er det foretatt fokusintervju med en del ansatte i sektoren. Basert på disse intervjuene er en spørreundersøkelse om grønne offentlige anskaffelser gjennomført i samferdselssektoren. Undersøkelsen avslører at det er et høyt utdanningsnivå blant de som arbeider med anskaffelser innenfor sektoren. De ansatte vurderer grønne anskaffelser å være av vesentlig betydning og aktivt engasjerer seg i problematikken. Med hensyn til kompetanse og nivå av ekspertise, anser de ansatte sin egen kompetanse som moderat, selv om en mer kritisk tolkning kan indikere en viss grad av underprestasjon på dette området. Ansatte mener man har behov for mer kompetanse innen en rekke områder relatert til grønne anskaffelser, eksempelvis utarbeidelse av grønn anskaffelsesstrategi, generell kompetanse om grønne anskaffelser og kompetanse om regelverk. Respondentene gir også tilbakemelding på hvordan de ønsker at kompetanse og kunnskapsløft skal organiseres. Dette kan oppsummeres i tre deler, kortere kurs, deltakelse i kompetansenettverk og digitale tilbud. Universitets- og høgskolesektoren (UH) har en viktig rolle i form av å skape innhold i disse tilbudene. Hvem som skal organisere disse tilbudene tar rapporten ikke stilling til.
