Areas of Work

I teach and supervise students at various levels of the Bachelor’s Programme in Nursing, covering both theoretical and clinical studies.

In my current position, my areas of work and responsibilities are primarily linked to various themes within mental health and psychiatric nursing. This includes, for example, relationships and relationship building, therapeutic communication and interaction, as well as the nurse's distinct role and responsibilities within mental health work.

As a nurse and educator, I am also concerned with the connection between the individual and society—health and illness, viewed through a holistic lens that considers the life conditions and history of the individual. The nurse meets the patient in life’s significant moments, in joy and in sorrow, from cradle to grave. This entails a great responsibility, requiring sensitivity, alertness, courage, and the necessary insight and knowledge, as well as continuous reflection on both professional and ethical issues.

Background

Education:

Bachelor in Nursing: Aker Nursing College; Registered General Nurse (RGN), 1986.

Higher Education Pedagogy and Didactics in Nursing: University of Oslo, 1994.

Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing: Oslo University College, 2001.

Arts and Expression Therapist: Norwegian Institute of Arts and Expression Therapy (NIKUT), 2007–2011.

Work Experience:

As a nurse, I have worked at the Paediatric Clinic at Oslo University Hospital (Rikshospitalet) and at Stabekk residential and treatment centre in Bærum. I have also served as an advisor to the Department Head’s staff within the District and Adult Psychiatric Department at Helse Nordmøre og Romsdal HF.  As a psychiatric nurse and later an arts and expression therapist, I have extensive experience as both an individual and group therapist at the Adult Psychiatric Outpatient Clinic at Molde DPS.

My first appointment as a University College Lecturer was at Lovisenberg Diaconal University College in 1990. Following this, I was employed as a lecturer at the State College of Nursing, teaching across various subject areas and eventually at all levels of the bachelor’s degree. I was also part of the faculty during the merger of the Aker, Ullevål, and State nursing colleges, which, after an extensive integration process, became the Department of Nursing at Oslo University College (now, OsloMet). I remained there from 1991 until I moved back to Molde in the autumn of 2005. Since 2017, I have been affiliated with Molde University College, currently holding a 20% position.
