IBE440 Fundamentals of Simulation Modeling (Spring 2023)

About the course

The course provides students with an opportunity to learn foundational concepts of simulation techniques to design, analyze, and improve processes in business, production and service systems. The topics include an introduction to simulation, input and output analysis, model development, animation and data visualization. Practical skills will be gained through a series of modeling exercises and a simulation project conducted using modern simulation software.

Knowledge of the basics of statistics might be an advantage, but not a prerequisite

Upon completion of the course, the students will

Knowledge:

• understand the basic concepts of simulation modeling

• be able to identify real-life problems within various industries which can be modeled and analyzed using simulation techniques 

Skills:

• be able to perform input data collection and analysis

• be able to design simulation models of business processes

• be able to conduct experiments, interpret and visualize output data

General competence:

• Students will acquire new knowledge and skills to conduct a simulation study using relevant software

The teaching is based on lectures and computer exercises. Three hours of teaching per week.
