This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the Internet of Things (IoT) and its transformative applications across multiple industries. Participants will explore the core technologies, protocols, and architectures that make IoT systems possible, as well as the practical steps needed to design and implement IoT solutions. Through real-world use cases and hands-on projects, students will learn how IoT can be applied to sectors such as energy, healthcare, transportation, smart cities, agriculture, and Industry 4.0 and 5.0, with a focus on creating smart, safe, and sustainable workplaces.

In this course, we will study the various components that form the definition of Industry 5.0. We will establish an understanding of the central role of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) both in how it defines the direction of technology and how it is defined by limitations of technologies. We will examine how sustainable practices will be adopted as a fundamental tenant and how this will shape the next large-scale industrial transformation without depleting the planet of its resources. We will also survey the various tools that will form the infrastructure of Industry 5.0, from artificial intelligence to robots to personalized manufacturing processes. Additionally, the course delves into the challenges and future trends that shape the evolution of IoT in the modern digital landscape.
