Investing in effective operations management solutions within the healthcare sector is crucial for enhancing the flow of patients and information from the initial onset of illness to the completion of treatment. There exists a substantial demand for expertise in operations management across all levels of the healthcare sector. Concurrently, there is a pressing need to understand and integrate emerging digital technologies.

Societal changes and evolving framework conditions significantly underscore the necessity for novel methodologies and solutions within healthcare services. This program educates students on the application of operations management to address both present and future challenges within municipal and specialized health services. The master's curriculum emphasizes a comprehensive systems perspective, which entails an understanding of the interrelationships among various components of the healthcare system and the optimization of interactions between different units to enhance outcomes.

The program imparts advanced knowledge and comprehension of patient and information flow throughout the value chain, from illness onset to complete treatment. Students will develop expertise in operations management through the analysis and comprehension of diverse problems and solutions. Employing an experiential learning approach, students will reflect on and derive insights from their personal experiences and challenges. Collectively, this educational approach will furnish students with the skills necessary to identify and resolve practical problems effectively. Further, this academic program equips students with proficiency in operations management specifically tailored to the healthcare sector, alongside an understanding and in-depth knowledge of current and prospective digital technologies.

Upon successful completion, graduates will be conferred the degree of Master in Artificial Intelligence and Health Care Operations Management. The curriculum comprises 37.5 ECTS credits dedicated to subjects in artificial intelligence in health care, alongside 37.5 ECTS credits focused on health care operations management. The remaining coursework is devoted to research methodologies and the completion of a master's thesis. Consequently, the program's title accurately captures its academic content and subject matter.

The teaching methods in the program will be a combination of physical teaching with one-week seminars in either Norway or Latvia combined with online teaching. Totally there are 4 mandatory seminars in the program. For more information see detailed description for each subject.

Healthcare systems face shifting societal demands and changing regulatory and organizational conditions. There is a strong demand for skilled practitioners who can both design efficient operational processes and understand how emerging digital tools (including AI) can be integrated safely and effectively. The program addresses these needs by teaching methods that work in both municipal and specialised health services

Learning outcomes

You will gain a system perspective that shows how different parts of the health system interact and how those interactions can be optimised to improve outcomes. The program develops practical skills in operations management, analysing workflows, designing interventions, and measuring impact, together with knowledge of current and emerging digital technologies relevant to healthcare. Research methods and reflective practice are included so you can learn from real-world experience and build evidencebased improvements.

Teaching is practiceoriented and experiential: you work on authentic cases and reflect on your own professional experience to develop solutions that are usable in practice. Theory is integrated with handson analysis so you can move from problem identification to implementation and evaluation.

Online teaching and seminars

The program uses a hybrid model: online teaching combined with four mandatory oneweek seminars held in Molde, Norway or Latvia. This format supports learning for working professionals while ensuring focused periods of handson collaboration. For more information see detailed description for each subject.
