Areas of Work
Bjørn Kjetil Larsen is Associate Professor of Social Work. He has professional experience from mental health services, substance use treatment and correctional services. His research examines how professional practice is shaped within complex and hybrid welfare and justice contexts, where legal, organizational and social work logics operate simultaneously.
A central analytical focus in his work is how structural conditions and institutional frameworks influence professional discretion and room for action, and how professionals navigate tensions between care, control and responsibility when working with people in vulnerable and marginalized life situations.
His research addresses interprofessional collaboration, professional role formation and coordination in contexts characterized by fragmented responsibility and competing goals. Larsen is programme coordinator for the interdisciplinary continuing education programme in psychosocial work with children and young people. Together with Professor Atle Ødegård, he hosts the podcast Tverrsnakk, which explores interprofessional collaboration and professional practice in the health and social services.
