Profile
I am an Associate Professor in Supply Chain Management at Molde University College, Campus Kristiansund. My research focuses on how supply chains operate, adapt, and evolve in complex and extreme environments, with a particular emphasis on Arctic contexts.
My work addresses both resilience and sustainability in supply chains. While resilience concerns how operations cope with uncertainty, risk, and disruptions, my research on sustainability focuses particularly on social dimensions—how human actions, relationships, and institutional frameworks shape supply chain practices.
I have over a decade of research experience in Arctic supply chains, including studies of offshore logistics, maritime operations, and supply systems in challenging environments. My research has been published in international peer-reviewed journals and book chapters within logistics and supply chain management. I am also the Editor-in-Chief of the volume Supply Chain Operations in the Arctic: Implications for Social Sustainability (Routledge, 2024), which brings together international research on sustainable Arctic operations.
A defining feature of my research is extensive empirical fieldwork. I have conducted multiple studies in Arctic regions, including fieldwork at sea and offshore. This includes a 2016 research voyage onboard a high ice-class (ARC7) containership along the Northern Sea Route, and a 2020 offshore voyage to the Heidrun and Kristin oil and gas fields in the Norwegian Sea. These experiences provide first-hand insights into operational practices and the dynamics of supply systems under extreme conditions.
My research is primarily based on qualitative methods and in-depth case studies, often grounded in institutional perspectives with a focus on human action, interaction, and decision-making processes.
I mainly teach at the bachelor’s level and supervise both bachelor’s and master’s students in logistics and supply chain management. My teaching emphasizes strong connections between theory and practice.
I also have professional experience from industry within logistics and management control, which provides an applied perspective on my research and teaching.
