  Artikkelen undersøker om dyrevelferden for landbruksdyr har blitt bedre etter Riksrevisjonens kritikk av Mattilsynet i 2019. Studien bygger på analyse av årsrapporter, mediesaker og rettsavgjørelser fra 2019–2024. Resultatene viser at vanskjøtsel fortsatt kan pågå over lang tid, og at tilsynsfrekvensen har gått ned. Kritikken har derfor ikke ført til tydelig forbedring. Hyppigere tilsyn, strengere reaksjoner og økte ressurser til Mattilsynet og Landbruks- og matdepartementet er nødvendig.

  A total of 5.4 million smolts of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) older than 15 months, were divided into 18 groups and followed after sea-launch. They were all produced in the freshwater stage by employing natural conditions including water temperature and light program. The smolt were reared at water temperatures that in winter is as low as +3 °C and is referred to as “cold smolt”. The 18 groups were transferred to 11 net pen locations in Norway. Mortality, Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) and share superior of the 18 groups were analyzed after harvesting and compared with the average in the respective production regions (POs) where the fish had been located. When the “cold smolt” had been co-located with the conventionally produced smolt groups, the “cold smolt” where also compared with these. The results indicate that the "cold smolt" performed better in the sea phase than both the average of all smolt in the respective production areas and compared to other smolts released at the same time at the same locations. Compared to the annual average in the same PO the “cold smolt” performed, from 2 % to 74 % better regarding mortality, from 4 % to 22 % better regarding FCR and from 2 % worse to 49 % better regarding superior product quality.

  Dødelighetstallene hos oppdrettsfisk er betydelig høyere enn i annen husdyrproduksjon. På tross av dette har vi kun funnet én straffesak fra den tidligere lov om dyrevern av 20. desember 1974 nr. 73, og to straffesaker fra den nye lov om dyrevelferd 19. juni 2009 nr. 97 relatert til akvakultur, som har vært behandlet i domstolene. Disse sakene var 3 av 17 som Mattilsynet hadde anmeldt i tidsrommet 2004 til og med 2023. Mattilsynet anmeldte til sammen 110 saker som omhandlet landdyr i 2022 og 2023, mot bare én sak om akvatiske organismer i samme tidsrom. Vår konklusjon er at oppdrettsfisk i Norge har rettslig vern etter gjeldende lovverk, men at Mattilsynet ikke anvender reglene etter sin intensjon. Dette har ført til svært få straffesaker på området. Vi stiller spørsmål om oppdrettsfisken har det rettsvernet som loven reelt gir.

  Vitamin D3 was analysed in fish muscle during two separate production trials with Atlantic salmon in the freshwater phase. Each trial consisted of two groups exposed to UV-B light and two control groups. Fish were sampled at the start of the trial and after approximately 30 and 70 days. The groups exposed to UV-B light had 2,5 to 6 times higher Vitamin D3 in the muscle after 4 weeks and more than 5 times as much after about 10 weeks than the control groups. The study suggests that Atlantic salmon in the freshwater phase synthesize pre-vitamin D3 from 7-dehydrocholesterol using UV-B light in a larger extent than previously thought. In today's salmon farming, where more of the farming occurs in closed and submerged facilities with no or limited access to UV-B from natural sunlight, this knowledge is important.

  We present the potential application of Machine Learning (ML) to fish farm in a similar approach used in agriculture to control crop growing and predict diseases. The agriculture concept of Precision Agriculture is now applied to fish farm by applying control-engineering principles to fish production; Precision Fish Farming (PFF) aims to improve the farmer's ability to monitor, control, and document biological processes. PFF can help the industry because it takes into consideration the boundary conditions and potentials that are unique to farming operations in the aquatic environment. The proposed solution improves commercial aquaculture and makes it possible to transition to knowledge-based production regime as opposed to experience-based. We apply a data mining approach to identify and evaluate the impact on the growth and mortality of fish in hatcheries. The use of ML techniques, combined with regulation, can increase the productivity and welfare of aquaculture living organisms.   An outbreak of disease characterized by skin ulcers, fin rot and mortality was observed a few days after the transfer of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) from a freshwater smolt production facility to a land‐based seawater post‐smolt site. Dead and moribund fish had severe skin and muscle ulcers, often 2–6 cm wide, particularly caudal to the pectoral fins. Microscopic examination of smears from ulcers and head kidney identified long, slender Gram‐negative rods. Histopathological analysis revealed abundance of long, slender Tenacibaculum‐like bacteria in ulcers and affected fins. Genetic characterization using multilocus sequence analysis (MLSA) of seven housekeeping genes, including atpA, dnaK, glyA, gyrB, infB, rlmN and tgt, revealed that the isolates obtained during the outbreak were all clustered with the Tenacibaculum dicentrarchi‐type strain (USC39/09T) from Spain. Two bath challenge experiments with Atlantic salmon and an isolate of T. dicentrarchi from the outbreak were performed. No disease or mortality was observed in the first trial. In the second trial with a higher challenge dose of T. dicentrarchi and longer challenge time, we got 100% mortality within 48 hr. This is the first reported outbreak of disease caused by T. dicentrarchi in Norwegian farmed Atlantic salmon.

  Studenter sliter med opplevelse av ensomhet og 1/3 av studentene oppfyller kriteriene for en psykisk lidelse, særlig depressive episoder. Førsteårsstudentene sliter mest. Digital undervisning har økt markant fra før coronatiden. Det samme har opplevelsen av ensomhet og psykiske lidelser blant studenter. I ett førstesemesteremne i bachelorstudiet i marin logistikk og økonomi ved høgskolen i Molde ble undervisningen kun gitt fysisk. Dette hovedsakelig for å få flere studenter til campus og klasserom. Det ble det sett på om oppmøtegrad i forelesningene og også resultater fra videregående skole hadde innvirkning på karakterer gitt til eksamen i emnet. Det ble også sett på hvordan alder på studentene påvirket karakterer og også hvordan overgangen fra videregående skole til høgskole ble opplevd i forhold til alder. Resultatene viste at større oppmøtegrad gav signifikant bedre karakterer og at bedre karakterer fra videregående skole også var positivt korrelert med bedre karakterer i dette emnet. Videre så en at overgangen til høgskole for de studentene som kom rett fra videregående skole opplevdes større enn for eldre studenter. Studentene var fornøyde med emnet. Forelesninger ble ikke lagt ut digitalt – og studentene gav ikke utrykk for at de savnet dette.
