The Faculty of Logistics is pleased to welcome all interested to the inaugural lectures for our newest professors:

“Transitioning from SC Risk Management to Building Resilient Supply Chains: A Subjective Outlook" by Artur Swierczek

And

"When human intelligence and artificial intelligence collide" by James Wen.

Each lecture will be 30 minutes.
Coffee and cake for everyone to celebrate our new professors.

Professor Artur Swierczek – an introduction

Artur Swierczek is a Professor of Supply Chain Management at Molde University College. His current scientific focus includes risk management, supply chain resiliency, and supply chain emergence. Artur has been the principal investigator for five external research projects funded by the National Science Foundation in Poland.

His research topics include ‘Creating Supply Chain Emergence through Blockchain Technology: Implications for the Network Rent in the Transitive Service Triads’, ‘The Effects of Network Governance on the Competitive Advantage of Supply Chains’, ‘The Concept of Resilient Supply Chain Management’, ‘The Effects of Supply Chain Collaboration on Demand Management Process’, and ‘Risk in Inter-organizational Relations in Supply Chains’.

Artur has also participated in two fellowships in the Department of Supply Chain Management at Arizona State University, conducting research on ‘Self-Organization of the Shadow System: Blockchain Technology in Supply Chains’, and ‘The Relational Competitive Advantage of Resilient Supply Chains’.

He has published over 20 peer-reviewed journal papers in top-tier outlets, including the International Journal of Production Economics, International Journal of Operations and Production Management, International Journal of Logistics Management, Journal of Purchasing and Supply Management, and Supply Chain Management: An International Journal.

Professor James Wen – an introduction

James, Professor of Information Technology, is fascinated by the fundamental human behavioral elements that govern our interaction with digital technologies. His research is rooted in the field of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and spans disciplines within the social and cognitive sciences as well as within information and computer science. He has used mobile augmented reality to understand how people can get “dumbed down” through technology use, built an iPhone app for taking cooperative selfies to investigate how digitally mediated interaction can warp social perception, and his work demonstrating how empathy for robots can threaten mission success has been cited by psychologists and marketing experts as well as roboticists and computer scientists.

James has published in top tiered peer-reviewed venues including ACM Computer Human Interaction, IEEE Intelligent Robots and Systems, and the APA Technology, Mind, and Society. Originally from Queens, New York, James has stayed on the cutting edge of HCI by keeping pace with industry, having held positions at IBM Research and Amazon and founding multiple investor-backed technology startups.

He has taught courses from digital literacy to advanced mobile programming as well as Extended Reality, the Internet of Things and Smart Cities. James received his Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University with honors in Physics and Computer Science, his Master of Science in Computer Science with honors and as a Presidential Fellow from Brown University, and studied under Augmented Reality pioneer Mark Billinghurst at the University of Canterbury for his PhD in Computer Science and Human Interface Technology.
