Molde University College is hosting the Profres Autmn PhD Symposium "Navigating Practice-Near Research: Opportunities and Challenges"

Gilbert Laporte is Professor Emeritus at HEC Montréal. He will provide some advice on how to write scientific papers with a strong emphasis on operational research papers. The presentation covers all the main components of a standard OR paper: title page, abstract, problem statement, literature review, model, algorithm, computational results, conclusions, references.

In today’s data-rich environment, researchers and professionals are increasingly expected to analyse complex relationships among variables—far beyond what traditional statistical techniques can handle. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) offer powerful tools to generate deep insights into latent constructs, measurement quality, and theoretical model testing. 

The EU-funded e-Hospital4Future project will have its closing event at Molde University College. Representatives for the Norwegian Directorate of Health, project participants and EU representatives will gather to sum up the project.

This practical-based course provides an in-depth introduction to stated choice survey design and modelling. It focuses on the definition, design, and deployment of rigorous and robust techniques, based on sound microeconomic theory. Investigating agents’ preferences with respect to hypothetical scenarios allows predicting the behavioural change that adopting any intervention policy could produce.​

"Emerging Technologies for Logistics and Business " is a comprehensive curriculum unit designed for Phd programs that focus on staying at the forefront of disruptive technologies. In today's rapidly evolving business landscape, integrating cutting-edge technologies is crucial for organizations to thrive and adapt to the ever-changing market dynamics. This course aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate and leverage emerging technologies effectively in the realms of logistics and business.

Graph theory is a powerful tool for modeling many real-life problems including logistics problems such as scheduling, assignment, routing and network design.In this course we start by giving an introduction to graph theory concepts and applications. Special weight is given to the computational representation of graphs. Then, several classic problems in graph theory are studied in detail. Each problem is formally defined and several lemmas and theorems on properties of the problem at hand are proved. These lemmas and theorems then lead to algorithms to handle the studied problem.

"Researching the operations and supply chains of charities"

The choice and execution of a research design is arguably one of the toughest decisions researchers face, as it involves making several trade-offs and coming to terms with the fact that no research design is perfect. This is particularly true for the social sciences and business disciplines, as constructs can be operationalized in many different ways, several concurrent factors/explanations tend to be relevant, and inferences drawn can be subjective. Additionally, knowledge is constantly evolving, with new studies questioning and adding to prior knowledge. Thus, for development as a top researcher, one must have a sound understanding and appreciation of the main tools of the trade.

The course provides a broad introduction to the philosophy of science, with emphasis on the history of science, the strategies of science in producing knowledge, and the interaction between science and society. The course will present the role, basic concepts and main perspectives in in philosophy of science.

Supply chains drives the economy and global markets. The push towards digitalization and circular economy has intensified the need for interoperability, transparency, and trust in supply chains. This can potentially be facilitated by Blockchain technologies.  This PhD-course presents blockchain fundamentals and current research on blockchain applications in SCM. It offers an opportunity to explore the scientific literature and write a working paper as a group effort under guidance of lecturers.
