About the course
Course content (abstract): Aims to familiarize student with basic concepts in port logistics. Discusses role of ports within the intermodal transport supply chain. Reviews some basic OR/MS problems. Port transshipment. Port pricing. Hub and spoke systems.
Topics covered: Port basics. Port planning and design. Types of terminals. Various OR/MS applications (queueing, berth allocation, yard management, etc). The policy context. Green maritime logistics. Port logistics in practice. .

The student's learning outcomes after completing the course
Student is expected to learn the basics of port design, operation, policy, economics, and environmental performance, as well as practical considerations in port logistics.
Forms of teaching and learning
Student goes over basic port-related literature. Student is expected to work on a project reviewing a specific port in terms of defined attributes.
