About the course

Information technology deals with the planning, development, improvement, evaluation and use of programs and computer systems. This course provides an overview of the major topics in Information Technology (IT):

• brief history of information technology
• digital representation of information and transformation
• the architecture and components of a computer
• software systems and programming languages
• communications: networks, the internet, the web technology and internet of things
• cloud computing
• artificial intelligence and machine learning, emerging technologies
• privacy and security

Knowledge

• The student will be familiar with the historical advancements in information technology to understand the possibilities and limitations of current technologies.
• The student will acquire knowledge of how data, hardware, software and communication systems are built and how these are used.

The student will have skills to analyze simple problems related to computer systems.

General competences

The student will be competent to contribute and give qualified evaluations regarding pros and cons of current information technologies.
