SCM703 Applied Supply Chain Management (Spring 2023)

About the course

The course and the assignments will include the following topics:

  • Modeling logistic problems with LINGO
  • Lot sizing in production
  • Pricing and lot sizing
  • Integrated models for planning production, distribution and purchase.
  • Integrated models for marketing and logistics - Demand Based Management (DBM) and Revenue Management (RM).

Equivalent to requirements for the MSc programme in Logistics.

The student's learning outcomes after completing the course

Knowledge

The successful candidate should by the end of the course:

  • Know the differences between a heuristic and an exact algorithm, and their respective advantages and drawbacks
  • Know the difference between the EOQ and Wagner-Whitin frameworks, and the use cases for each of them

Skills

The successful candidate should by the end of the course:

  • Be able to use commercial optimization software tools like LINGO for solving optimization problems in logistics
  • Be able to execute the Wagner-Whitin algorithm to solve a dynamic lot size problem
  • Be able to create a simple heuristic algorithm for the Capacitated Lot Size Problem (CLSP)

General competence

The successful candidate should by the end of the course:

  • Be familiar with methods and techniques used for modeling and solving logistic problems that occurs in practice
  • Be aware of the potential value of integrating decision making, rather than making decisions sequentially
