IBE220 Digital Communication: Human-Technology Interaction (Autumn 2024)

About the course

Digital technologies are increasingly pervasive in society. They play an important role in our private lives and in how we conduct business. Understanding the role of digital communication and how humans interact with digital technologies can help us to manage present day challenges such as attaining: human wellbeing, ethical designs of new technologies, and achieving sustainability goals in business. The course will have three main focus areas: (1) the nature of digital communications; (2) the role and impact of social media in present society; (3) resources and approaches to manage digital communications in business and society.

Forms of teaching and learning

The course will have a weekly 2-hours video session (on Zoom). Zoom sessions will be recorded by the main teacher and made available on Canvas. Attendance of the live Zoom session is encouraged.

  • Attendance: Not required, but encouraged

  • Grouping: It is preferred that students work in groups of size 2-4, but it is possible to ask for permission to work individually.

  • Comment: Students must complete Assignment 1 and 2 in order to continue to the Home Assessment.

    • Assignment 1: The student group will select a digital communication technology as a topic of a case study. They will create a video presentation and deliver it to the instructor based on a question-set that will be provided at course start.

    • Assignment 2: The group will play their video within their assigned date and timeslot of a zoom lecture. The group must be available live (on zoom) to answer questions during their assigned timeslot.

Examination

  • Form of assessment: Home Assessment

  • Grouping: Group or individual. Maximum 4 persons per group. Students within the same group are allowed to work together.

  • Proportion: 100%

  • Duration: 1 week

  • Grading Scale: Letters (A - F)

  • Supporting Material: All printed and written supporting material.

  • Comment: Final Written Report – Report on the student group’s selected case: The group will upload a minimum of a 5-pages (but can be longer) written report that is based on the original question-set in Assignment 1 and 2. The report should take into consideration the feedback obtained at the presentation or other feedback provided by the teacher.
