IDR806 Contemporary Issues in Sport Management (Autumn 2020)

About the course

The course intend to take students to a deeper level of understanding of contemporary sport issues, some of which are highly exposed. This does not mean that the course follows the agenda of the media on a day-to-day basis, rather that experts introduce students to diverse scientific perspectives on managing contemporary sport issues, for ecample:

  • The governance of European and Scandinavian sport
  • The role of sports organizations and regulators
  • Models of player and talent development
  • Player contract negotiations and player logistics
  • The ethics of managing modern sport
  • Treatment of compensation, punishment, harassment, doping issues etc.
  • Psychological organizational effects of winning and losing
  • Corporate social responsibility and community relations of professional sport clubs

The course consist of three seminars (2,5 ECTS each). Outline of the seminars will be available in due course before the semester starts.

  • Evaluate and discuss how insights from contemporary issues in sport management can be used to develop modern sport institutions.

Forms of teaching and learning

The course consist of three (3) seminars each worth 2,5 ECTS given by internal and/or external experts. The seminars lasts for one week and include lectures and group work (15 student contact hours) as well as individual work.
