About the course

The purpose of the bachelor thesis is to enable the student to develop deeper knowledge, understanding and capabilities within the context of sport management. The Bachelor thesis project offers the opportunity for the student to delve more deeply into a specific field of research and synthesise knowledge acquired during their studies.

The Bachelor thesis project can either be written individually or by two students writing together. It can be written in Norwegian or English either as:

  1. Traditional variant: 40-50 pages (15.000-20.000 words) or

  2. Article variant: 20-25 pages (7.500-10.000 words).

 

For the Bachelor thesis research project students will be able to select among a list of prepepared topics by faculty members OR develop a very specific topic of their own interest in close collaboration with a member of the faculty.

Recommended requirements

The student need to have passed all mandatory Sport Management bachelor subjects from the first and second year. The Bachelor thesis can only be written by students that have been admitted to the Sport Management bachelor study at Molde University College during the course of the last five years.

Learning outcome: Knowledge

By completing a Bachelor’s thesis project, students should be able to demonstrate:

  • Considerably more in-depth knowledge of a particular major field of study within sport management, including deeper insight into current research

  • The capability to critically and systematically integrate knowledge from different sources

  • Deeper knowledge of methods in a particular major field of study within sport management

 

Learning outcome: Skills

By completing a Bachelor’s thesis project, students should be able to demonstrate:

  • The capability to use a holistic view to critically, independently and creatively identify, formulate and deal with complex issues

  • The capability to to address problems and to contribute to research

  • The capability to plan and use adequate research methods to collect data in given theoretical frameworks and to evaluate this work

 

Learning outcome: General Competences

By completing a Bachelor’s thesis project, students should be able to demonstrate:

  • The capability to finalize a thesis research project by applying key academic skills and competences

  • The capability to clearly present and discuss the conclusions of the thesis research project

  • A consciousness awareness of the ethical aspects associated with their research.

Forms of teaching and learning

All students are given 20 hours individual supervision while writing their Bachelor thesis project.

  • Two mandatory assignments: 1. Confirmation of topic selection on the eLearning platform (CANVAS). 2. Submission deadline of a full (!) draft version of the thesis on CANVAS and to your tutor. Only by delivery within this deadline, you can expect last comments on the draft by your tutor for important revisions to be considered for the final delivery.

Course evaluation

The Bachelor thesis research project will be graded by an internal and an external evaluator.
