Structure and content
Structure and content of programme
The experience-based master's program in Applied IT is a part-time study program with half-time study progression The study program is suitable for students who also have a job in addition to studies. The teaching is delivered digitally. You will have access to all information that is published in the study administration system Canvas. This includes links to lectures and video recordings of lectures.
For each subject you are going to take, you must read the description in the study guide and the information in Canvas. There you will find out whether there are coursework requirements, digital written exams or digital oral exams. It is the responsibility of each individual student to follow up so that you do what is required in the subject.
We strongly recommend you participate in the Yearly Physical Workshop for IT-Master students to be held each year during the spring semester.
Further information on the default IT-master program:
1st Semester Fall
In the first semester, two obligatory courses can be followed online.
2nd Semester Spring
In the second semester, two obligatory courses can be followed online.
3rd Semester Fall
In the third semester, follow the compulsory seminar LOG904-101 Research design. This seminar runs intensively over a week. We recommend attendance in Molde, but it can also be followed online. The seminar is necessary to be able to start the master's thesis and is followed by a project description of your master thesis in the seminar LOG904-100 Proposal. Those who prefer, can postpone both LOG904-101 Research design and LOG904-100 Proposal until the fourth semester.
Other than LOG904-100 and LOG904-101 the semester consists of one obligatory course that can be followed online.
4th Semester Spring
The 4th semester consists of two obligatory courses that can be followed online.
Those who did not complete the seminar in Research Design and Proposal in the third semester will be able to do so in the spring semester instead. The seminar will be given online and does not require physical attendance.
LOG904-100 Proposal is a written assignment that describes the plan for the master's thesis, and this must be defended orally. The students will be assigned a supervisor for the assignment.
It is expected that the students themselves will take control of the registration in the required subjects, as well as finding a topic for the master's thesis.
5th Semester Fall
In the fifth semester, the students must begin writing the master's thesis. This assumes that the seminar in Research Design and the Proposal have been completed in the third or fourth semester. Normally, the Master's thesis should be written individually, but two students can write together if approved by the IT-Master Study leader. Guidelines for the master's thesis will be provided.
6th semester spring
In the sixth and final semester, the master's thesis must be submitted. The submission is at the end of May and the thesis must be defended orally two to three weeks later. A grade is given based on both the written submission and the oral presentation. If the company you are writing for wants the assignment to be confidential, a confidentiality form must be filled out.
If a postponement is necessary, the next possible delivery date will be at the end of the autumn semester, or alternatively at the end of the spring semester the following year.
