  The purpose of this paper is to examine how managers can develop ‘parallel’ supply chains to overcome the efficiency/flexibility trade-offs of offshored versus reshored/nearshored production. Primary evidence is gathered from 22 field interviews with eight companies from multiple countries, all operating in the textile and apparel industry. The interview data is triangulated using a cross-industry focus group with 28 participants and secondary sources including company annual reports and website information. The study contributes to organizational ambidexterity theory by identifying how companies embed structural ambidexterity in their supply chains, and in so doing create ‘parallel supply chains’. Our findings show that companies partition their production in terms of width (meaning that specific product lines were relocated) and depth (meaning that specific production activities were relocated). Companies then use a mix of offshored production facilities to manufacture low-margin, long-lead-time products as well as reshored/nearshored production facilities to make high-margin, quick-response items. The ability to swap production volumes between parallel supply chains enables supply chain ambidexterity, which in turn allows companies to exploit efficiency and flexibility benefits simultaneously. Managers are provided with an empirically informed, step-by-step framework for developing structural ambidexterity and building parallel supply chains.

  Despite the widely advocated positive impact of coopetition on firms' sustainability performance, there is a lack of research-based explanations for the underlying mechanism linking these two variables. This study investigates the role of dynamic capabilities and sustainability awareness as mediators and necessary conditions for the relationship between coopetition and firms' sustainability performance. Drawing on data from the Norwegian fishing industry, our analysis demonstrates a significant association between coopetition and an increase in dynamic capabilities and sustainability awareness. Additionally, dynamic capabilities and sustainability awareness are significantly related to improved firms' sustainability performance. Importantly, the direct effect of coopetition becomes insignificant when considering the two mediating variables, indicating full mediation by dynamic capabilities and sustainability awareness. Further analysis reveals that these two factors are also necessary conditions for enhancing firms' sustainability performance. Based on these findings, we provide actionable recommendations to guide appropriate managerial and policy interventions.

  This study examines the effect of dynamic capabilities (DCs) on economic performance (ECOP), social performance (SOP), and environmental performance (ENVP) under different levels of environmental dynamism (EnvD). Based on preliminary interviews and survey data collected from Norwegian fishing firms, the analysis was conducted using partial least squares structural equation modeling and necessary conditions analysis. The results show that firms that acquire a set of DCs are more likely to improve their economic, social, and environmental sustainability performance. More so, firms' economic performance is a necessary condition for social performance, but not for ENVP. Interestingly, the results show that the effect of DCs on economic and environmental sustainability performance is even stronger when the level of EnvD is higher. However, EnvD does not have a significant effect on the relationship between DCs and social sustainability performance. Our findings provide guidance to managers on how and when to invest in and leverage DCs to improve sustainability performance in the food industry.

  The willingness of individuals to provide personal data is of interest to policymakers and practitioners seeking to develop more intelligent transportation systems that create value for passengers using technologies, as well as to leverage the use of data more generally to accelerate digital transformation. This study examines the role of perceived benefits as a driver and necessary condition for the willingness of air passengers to provide personal data for non-mandatory digital services at airports. These are services that are not essential for the operation of the airport or for the safety and security of passengers but can enhance the passenger experience or generate additional revenue for the airport. Examples include receiving notifications to a mobile device about their journey and related products and services, accessing customer services online, joining and receiving electronic information from an airport loyalty programme, and making payments for products and services online or via a mobile application. The analysis is based on two samples of 235 and 218 respondents to an online survey where the second sample is used for the purpose of replication. Responses were analysed using a recently developed complementary approach that combines partial least squares structural equation modeling and necessary condition analysis. The findings confirm that perceived benefits are a significant driver and necessary condition for passengers’ willingness to provide personal data. More so, perceived benefits significantly attenuate the negative effect that privacy concerns have on passengers’ willingness to provide personal data. The findings offer theoretical and methodological contributions, as well as implications for policy and practice.

  Circular economy (CE) is necessary for achieving sustainability goals. Nonetheless, the distillation of CE practices into business operations has been unsatisfactory as firms struggle to transition to CE. There is an increase in studies that have attempted to identify challenges impeding the implementation of CE practices. However, most of these studies focus on technical and external aspects affecting CE, leaving intra-organisational aspects such as organisational learning and knowledge largely unexplored. The latter aspects can play a significant role in CE transitions, and thus warrants further research. To address this research gap, this study draws on lean thinking as an organisational learning system and accentuates knowledge obstacles, seen as wastes, that can stifle a transition to CE. Subsequently, it deploys action-learning research, involving collaboration between researchers and the participants in the action to generate actionable knowledge. The analysis of the findings is used to develop a novel framework including six measures that can be implemented to counteract knowledge obstacles and lay a foundation for a CE transition. The proposed framework can be the basis for further research on lean and intra-organisational aspects that can help firms restructure the current linear mode of production, and thus accelerate a smooth CE transition.

  With growing concerns about sustainability, competing companies in the food supply chain are compelled to engage in non-traditional forms of collaboration. Coopetition (i.e. horizontal collaboration with competitors) is gaining attention as a means of improving sustainability performance in supply chains. However, little is known in the existing literature about the causal mechanism and conditions of coopetition to improve supply chain sustainability in the food industry. Based on an embedded case study in the Norwegian fishing industry, we posit several propositions and develop an empirical framework delineating the relationship between coopetition and supply chain sustainability. The case study research is informed by semi-structured interviews corroborated by relevant secondary data. Our findings reveal a set of dynamic capabilities through which coopetition improves supply chain sustainability. Besides, laws and regulations, and certification and standards, positively impact the relationship between coopetition and supply chain sustainability. Conversely, insufficient funds, conflicts of interest, and firm size affect the same relationship negatively. This study contributes to the literature by providing valuable insights into coopetition as a source of dynamic capabilities. In addition, our results show how coopetition can best be leveraged by managers to improve the sustainability of the food supply chain.   This paper investigates blockchain technology from a Triple Bottom Line (TBL) perspective. Transparency is vital for achieving accountability, improving the environmental footprint and ensuring that workers’ rights are respected. Blockchain-enabled capabilities provide opportunities to support improved information transparency to sub-suppliers and customers. Case study research is used within the complex multi-tier global fashion industry to explore the application of blockchain technology in enhancing TBL performance. This paper responds to calls from the literature to provide practice-based research on blockchain and supply chain management challenges.   This article applies a mixed-method approach to explore the complexities of post-mergers and acquisitions (M&A) integration processes. Extant literature provides significant insights regarding the impact of task and human integration and their influence on post-integration processes. However, the literature often fails to differentiate between subelements of these two dimensions. This article investigates task and human integration in a cross-border M&A aimed at efficiency and innovativeness. We highlight the importance of a clear distinction between two subelements of task integration (product harmonization and structural integration) and show that different interorganizational contexts matter. Consequently, we propose a conceptual framework based on two contextual characteristics—source of synergy and choice of location—suggesting that different integration approaches should be applied simultaneously in different contexts of the same post-M&A organization.

  This study explores the relative importance of epistemic value, value for money and perceived safety in visitors’ evaluation of a foreign destination. Based on a sample of 248 international tourists who visited Zanzibar between July 2021 and January 2022, the study shows that the three factors are significantly associated with overall satisfaction, subsequently affecting the visitor’s willingness to recommend the destination. However, perceived safety and epistemic value also directly affect the willingness to recommend. Regarding importance, epistemic value is the most important antecedent of the willingness to recommend, while the value for money is the least important. The results imply that as destinations strive to attract international visitors following the pandemic, their marketing communications should emphasize epistemic value, overall satisfaction, and safety.   This paper draws on data collected through multiple approaches and presents an exploration of the early stages of a large sustainability-oriented rural tourism development project. Through a streamlined qualitative analysis, the study revealed four tactical moves deployed in the early stages of the project. The moves include instilling project legitimacy, forging a support network, anchoring the project, and mobilising resources and capabilities. Further analysis revealed that these moves tend to reinforce each other, and thus they require concurrent implementation. Subsequently, the study develops a framework delineating drivers, enablers, challenges, and key success factors for navigating the early stages of a large sustainability-oriented rural tourism development project. Intriguingly, the study contradicts the path dependence perspective, which is often used in project management research. Instead, it suggests that the early stages of such projects require tactical path creation involving well-calculated actions that serve as a breeding ground for valuable random incidents.   Engineer-to-order (ETO) manufacturers operate in an increasingly volatile, uncertain, and complex business environment, which has added more complexity to their already complex supply chain operations. As they navigate the ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic, they need knowledge-based guidance on selecting and implementing approaches to increasing resilience. Based on a clinical management design, this study develops a systematic approach for a case firm that recently transitioned from single sourcing to multi-sourcing. The goal is to strike a balance between the total cost of acquisition and supply chain resilience. The study reveals that effective implementation of multi-sourcing in ETO production requires involving the purchasing and supply function (PSF) right from the design stages. Besides, it is essential to deploy a cloud-based procurement system that facilitates interactions between PSF and the suppliers, as well as other critical organisational functions involved in an ETO project.

  Through product development and design, manufacturers wield great influence on the entire product’s life cycle resulting in creating value to customers and thus, have great potential to decouple this value provision from linear resource consumption to a Circular Economy (CE).However, sinceCEis a systemic concept rooted in the principle of conservation of resources, its implementation cannot only be done in one of the firm’s functions or facilities, as it requires collaboration and commitment enterprise wide and conscious management of stakeholders.   The COVID-19 crisis has become the most intense and long-lasting in the history of aviation. There is already a significant literature on the immediate impact of the outbreak, as well as on speculation on the future evolution of the industry. This paper seeks to contribute to this discussion by assessing a year into the crisis the demand related aspects and passenger behavioural impacts of the pandemic. Specifically, the paper aims to identify discrete market segments of air passengers according to their shared attitudes and preferences about air travel in light of the COVID-19 crisis, as well as past behaviour and future travel intentions. To achieve this, we analyse data from a large (n = 2096) online questionnaire survey of air passengers in Norway. The cluster analysis identifies four distinct passenger segments, with each displaying varying attitudes, behaviours, and levels of concern about air travel. One of these groups, described as the ‘Apprehensive Elders’, were identified as having the highest level of concern about flying, and subsequently showed a sharp decline in their intention to travel in the future. Another group, termed the ‘Cautious Commuters’, showed similarly enhanced levels of concerns about flying, but maintained a high propensity to fly following the pandemic despite these concerns. Regarding possible interventions to increase confidence in flying in the future, across all segments the data shows a clear preference for more ‘traditional’ active interventions, including wearing of face masks and enforcement of physical distancing, over and above passive or technological interventions. Norway represents a valuable case as a possible signal for future policy and practice in relation to the recovery of air travel following the pandemic. The findings have important implications for air transport managers and decision makers in terms of managing the perceptions and expectations of different passenger groups as air travel begins to return.   This paper reports a confirmatory composite analysis of a scale for measuring privacy concerns, and the effect of privacy concerns on the willingness to provide personal data. The analysis is based on 468 survey responses, divided into two contexts: airport digital services and online retail services. Results from both contexts confirm that privacy concerns consist of a third-order construct comprising two-second order constructs (interaction management and information management) and a first-order construct (awareness). The effect of privacy concerns on the willingness to provide personal data is higher in the airport digital context than in the online retail context. Also, the relevance of the three dimensions varies by context. Thus, researchers must carefully consider their research context and include items for the most relevant dimensions of privacy concerns in measurement models. Likewise, managers must prioritise dimensions of privacy concerns according to their business context.   This paper develops and tests a conceptual model to examine the effect of a perceived threat of informal actors on the business performance of formal actors. Drawing on a sample of 130 inbound tour operators, structural path analysis shows that the perceived threat of informal actors is positively associated with the formal actors’ service quality and customer acquisition efforts, which subsequently are positively associated with an increase in business performance. The perceived threat of informal actors appears to increase business performance only through its influence on service quality and customer acquisition efforts.   This study develops and tests a theory-driven conceptual model that explains variations in collaborative supply risk mitigation. It is based on data collected from manufacturing firms in Norway. The results show that collaborative risk identification, perception of supply risks, and overall focus on mitigating disruptive risks have a significant direct effect on collaborative supply risk mitigation. Further, an increase in collaborative risk identification strengthens the effect that perceived supply risk has on the level of collaborative risk mitigation, while supplier performance weakens the effect of perceived supply risk on the level of collaborative supply risk mitigation. Finally, the importance-performance map analysis shows that collaborative risk identification and the buying firm’s overall focus on mitigating disruptive risks are the most important factors to explain variations in collaborative risk mitigation efforts. On the basis of the results, relevant theoretical implications are discussed and actionable managerial recommendations are provided.   Based on the analysis of 2278 online passenger ratings of airports worldwide, this study uses a standard multinomial logit model to determine the likelihood of a passenger being a promoter of an airport when a service attribute has failed, controlling for several passenger and airport characteristics. Results show that failures associated with airport staff and queueing times are most likely to reduce the probability of a passenger being a promoter of an airport. Failures associated with airport shopping and wifi service are least likely to do so. More importantly, the failure of any service attribute in this study significantly reduces the probability of a passenger being a promoter of an airport. This suggests that all parts of the airport value chain are likely to suffer when a service attribute fails. Passenger and airport characteristics included in this study do not add significant explanation to whether a passenger becomes a promoter.   Drawing on extant literature and eight case firms, this paper explores reputational risk as an essential factor in selecting offshore locations. By categorizing and aggregating insights from the empirical data and the relevant literature, the paper identifies country reputational risk as a factor determining the firm's propensity to exclude specific offshore locations. However, its effect is contingent upon managers' interpretation of the critical elements of the business environment in a particular country. Thus, the study contributes by demystifying the role of ‘managerial inputs’, which are often neglected within international sourcing literature. Further, reputational risk is delineated as a higher-order construct comprised of three lower-order constructs: unethical practices, institutional weakness, and quality concerns. Our findings distinguish reputational risk from the CSR framework because the dimensions of reputational risk identified in this study transcend beyond the governance, ethics, environmental and social spheres of CSR. This way, the study contributes to a holistic representation of reputational risk that can allow researchers to match its broad predictors with broad outcomes.   Airports are increasingly focused on implementing digital technologies at key stages of the airport journey to enhance the passenger experience. However, passengers have different preferences. TwoStep Cluster Analysis is used to reveal the presence of distinct segments according to their preferences. The findings are based on a survey of 6082 passengers at airports in Norway. Three distinct segments are identified: those that prefer traditional manual processes, those that prefer automated technology-based processes, and those that prefer more personalised technology-based processes. Significant differences are revealed for each segment according to passenger and trip characteristics and opinions regarding how the use of digital technologies at airports impact on personal privacy and human dignity. The findings contribute to knowledge on passenger preferences at airports and can help to inform airport decision making.   As airports undergo digital transformation, ie a paradigmatic shift in the way digital technologies are adopted and used, there is a need for actionable insights to ensure that airport digital maturity is achieved. Using an integrative review of literature, this paper develops an airport digital maturity model, focusing mainly on a passenger experience perspective. The paper then delineates two dimensions of digital transformation — technological and organisational. Subsequently, an airport digital transformation model is conceptualised to identify key factors that airports need to consider when transforming their business and to analyse interesting lines of enquiry for future research. Insights offered by the model are relevant to both practitioners and researchers interested in conducting future studies in this area.   This study investigates the effect of organizational support, perceived usefulness, and perceived availability of support schemes on public purchaser attitudes towards public procurement of innovations (PPI). Through a self-administered questionnaire, data were collected from a sample of public purchasers working in the Norwegian municipalities. The dataset was analysed through partial least squares structural equation modelling. The results show that organizational support is significantly associated with increased perceived usefulness of PPI, which in turn is positively associated with attitudes towards PPI. Contrary to our expectation, perceived availability of PPI support schemes is negatively associated with attitude towards PPI. Indeed, rather than strengthening the effect of public purchasers’ perceived usefulness of PPI on attitude it significantly weakens it. Although the results show that experience with PPI and the presence of a PPI strategy positively affect attitude towards PPI, their effects are not as strong as we expected. Further analysis showed that the most important factor in our model is the perceived usefulness of PPI, followed by organizational support. The study provides several managerial and policy implications. For instance, schemes for supporting PPI should be scaled up along with the dissemination of information about their mode of operation and the associated benefits.   Inclusion of ‘circular principles’ in the activities of the purchasing process from the initial stages to the end of product life can help all actors in the value chain to deliver sustainability goals through an active, cost-effective and accountable approach. Yet, research on this linkage has been virtually nonexistent. This study extends perspectives and theories on purchasing and circular economy business models (CEBMs) for engineer-to-order (ETO) production. Based on a case study, a framework that identifies critical purchasing activities relevant for enhancing the implementation of CEBMs is developed. The framework advocates that engaging in the proposed activities can compel the purchasing function to increase its strategic focus by being proactive and relentless in embracing circularity in its agenda. In addition to accentuating the relevance of purchasing function in ETO production, the framework shows how harnessing it can benefit circular strategies.

  This study investigates the effect of organisational readiness, innovation and airport size and ownership on digital change at airports. Data is collected from a survey of managers at 94 airports worldwide and analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling. Organisational readiness is found to have a direct effect on digital change. Organisational readiness also has a direct effect on innovation, which subsequently affects digital change. Airport size has a direct effect on digital change while the effect of ownership is not significant. The findings show that successful development of organisational readiness can be used to speed up the rate of innovation needed for digital change at airports.   This paper explores the experiences of Chinese tourists who visit the Geiranger fjord by using 196 blog posts of tourist’s description of their experience. Our analysis shows that 92 percent of the blog posts portray positive experiences. Using grounded theory, we identify five constructs representing core motivational ideas. The most interesting construct we identify is the Chinese tourists’ interest and idealization of the Norwegian and Scandinavian way of living and culture.

  Safeguarding specific investments and mitigation of potential opportunistic behaviours are among the most prominent functions of formal contracting in buyer–seller relationships. Extending the extant literature, the present study investigates the relationship between specific investments and the extent of formal contracting in cross-border and domestic relationships. Based on a sample of 156 buyer–seller relationships, the analysis shows that there is a positive association between specific investments and the extent of formal contracting. However, the emphasis on formal contracting is stronger in cross-border relationships than in the domestic ones. Interestingly, the association between specific investments and formal contracting becomes even stronger in cross-border relationships.   Based on a review of literature, this paper applies the concept of maturity models to airport digital transformation, focusing mainly on a passenger experience perspective. The paper shows how airport digital maturity ranges from the mere replacement of analogue processes through to the more progressive and innovative adoption of digital technologies for adding value to specific processes. Ultimately, the industry is undergoing a progressive digital transformation, a paradigmatic shift in the way digital technologies are adopted and used, but also in terms of how airports address organisational challenges associated with transforming their business. Key factors that airports need to consider when transforming their business are illustrated in an airport digital transformation model. The model also provides a conceptual framework for researchers interested in conducting future studies in this area.

  Realization of the circular economy (CE) and its full potential requires firms to rethink their supply chains and business models. Although several frameworks in the literature propose circular economy business models (CEBMs) to redefine how companies create and capture value while adhering to CE principles, there has yet to be an examination of CEBMs in engineer to order (ETO) context. To address this gap, this study maximizes the depth of the phenomenon under investigation by leveraging a case study of a Norwegian company that deals with a large number of small ETO projects.   The purpose of this paper is to explore the drivers, enablers, barriers, key success factors, pitfalls and benefits of implementing public procurement of innovations (PPoI) in an organization. Design/methodology/approach - The study deployed multiple-case design, whereby six case organizations were selected according to purposeful sampling. Data collection was carried out through in-depth semi-structured one-on-one interviews with key informants. Data analysis involved coding, synthesis, categorization and aggregation. Findings - The study revealed that implementation of PPoI represents significant change in an organization, and thus, it identifies key enablers and barriers that organizations must overcome. Furthermore, the study revealed that implementation of PPoI is a necessary but not sufficient condition for reaping its benefits. Moreover, the study identified key success factors for achieving the desirable results and potential pitfalls that organizations should avoid to ensure that the execution phase is not hurt. Social implications - Overall, the findings of the study imply that PPoI and the practices associated with it are valuable to the organizations implementing it and society at large. Thus, time and financial investments and the costs associated with the challenges and barriers of implementing it are justified by the resulting wider benefits and outcomes. Originality/value - The study contributes by providing useful insights related to implementation of PPoI at an organizational level. Considering that extant literature provides limited insights on this subject, findings of this study should be of interest to researchers, public authorities, procurement practitioners, small- and medium-sized enterprises and other stakeholders. In particular, the study contributes to the body of knowledge on PPoI and offers actionable implications to both practitioners and policymakers.

  Purpose: The purpose of this study is to delineate key aspects of backshoring readiness and discuss how such aspects contribute to a smooth shift-back from global sourcing operations. It aims to answer the following questions: which factors constitute backshoring readiness and how these factors affect the backshoring transition. Design/methodology/approach: Based on theory departure from the organizational readiness field and the emerging field on backshoring, a conceptual model is developed. A multiple qualitative case study is then conducted to exemplify the backshoring readiness factors delineated in the study. Findings: The study indicates that due to previous outsourcing, limitations concerning the availability of firms’ capabilities are affected by ownership structures and that backshoring appears to be time-sensitive. The study delineates three key aspects of backshoring readiness and proposes a comprehensive understanding of readiness as an important construct to enhance successful backshoring. Research limitations/implications: The findings are limited by the nature of this conceptual study, the restriction to a high-cost context and the small number of cases. Therefore, conclusions and proposed recommendations need to be further investigated in preferably larger samples of case studies. Practical implications: By introducing contextual variables that go beyond traditional cost considerations, this work should be of special interest for both practitioners and academics, because the absorptive capacity for the exploitation of cutting-edge knowledge is globally scarce and hence rather expensive in Western countries compared with traditionally low-cost countries. Another practical contribution of this study is the conceptual backshoring readiness framework itself, as it can guide firms acquainting themselves with the resource availability in their home environment. Originality/value: The research defines key resources needed to facilitate backshoring readiness in a conceptual framework developed from literature, which is then exemplified by a case study. This framework conceptualizes backshoring readiness as aspects of requirements to knowledge, technology and supplier infrastructures. Furthermore, the readiness framework developed provides firms and their managers with six recommendations that can enable a rigorous evaluation of a firm’s readiness to embark on backshoring and reflect on the aspect of fitness of its current strategies.   The purpose of this study is to explore the effect of detailed contracts and partner irreplaceability on interfirm conflict in cross-border package tour operations. The study is based on an analysis of relations between 129 inbound tour operators and their overseas outbound tour operator partners. Data were collected using a standard questionnaire containing questions that capture constructs of interest. Hypotheses were tested with partial least squares structural equation modeling using SmartPLS 3. The results show that more detailed contracts significantly reduce conflict. The direct effect of partner irreplaceability on conflict is not significant. However, partner irreplaceability significantly weakens the efficacy of detailed contracts to reduce conflict.   Achieving partner acquiescence is critical in interfirm exchanges because it allows the focal firm to achieve its desired outcomes. Using a case study on dyadic relationships between inbound tour operators in Tanzania and their overseas outbound partners, this paper investigates the effect of partner irreplaceability and distributive fairness on acquiescence, and the subsequent effect that acquiescence has on conflict. The case study uses partial least squares structural equation modeling on data collected from 129 dyadic relationships. Results show that partner irreplaceability and distributive fairness are positively associated with acquiescence, which in turn reduces conflict. The effect of distributive fairness on acquiescence was found to be larger than that of irreplaceability. In addition, the direct effect of distributive fairness on conflict, although not hypothesised, was found to be significant. This emphasises the importance of distributive fairness, and its role as a possible buffer to conflict in less acquiescent exchanges.

  During the last few decades, a growing body of literature has been produced on various aspects of interorganizational relations (IOR) in tourism. This paper provides a review of that literature. The findings are based on a review of 269 empirical papers published in 37 tourism journals between 1989 and the first quarter of 2017. The review identifies six main research themes relating to relationship formation, structure and activities, governance, maintenance, outcomes, and evolution. Based on the insights from this review, an organizing framework for research on IOR in tourism is developed and four opportunities for advancing research on IOR in tourism are proposed relating to the pursuit of causal inference, supply networks as a unit of analysis, quantifying outcomes of IOR in tourism, and addressing marginalized topics.   Purpose This paper aims to develop a conceptual framework on interfirm conflicts in tourism value chains. The framework includes types of conflict, triggers of conflict and their preconditions, consequences of conflict and measures for preventing conflict. Design/methodology/approach The framework is developed from a review of literature that is focused largely on tourism value chains, interfirm conflicts and interorganizational relations. It draws on the ideas, concepts and empirical evidence offered in the literature. Findings Conflicts can be distinguished by their level of explicitness and by the motives on which they are grounded. They may be triggered by opportunistic behaviours, coercive demands, perceptions of unfairness or dissatisfaction with partner’s performance. Preconditions include exogenous events, asymmetrical power distribution, antagonism of goals and differences in perceptions of reality and serve as a breeding ground for the triggers. Consequences are typically destructive but may also offer opportunities for constructive outcomes. Joint implementation of formal contracting and relational governance may be used to prevent conflicts. Originality/value This paper provides a conceptual framework that can be used by scholars wishing to conduct more detailed empirical research on the subject. It can also be used by practitioners to assess interorganizational relations within their tourism value chains and to develop appropriate measures for preventing interfirm conflicts.   Although data is considered the new oil, privacy concerns among consumers limit its full potential. In our recent research, we have explored the effect of privacy concerns on customer’s willingness to provide personal data. Unlike previous studies, our study examines whether providing customers with information about the potential benefits of sharing personal data helps to reduce their resistance. Our analysis is based on a sample of 468 respondents in Norway, representing potential customers of airport services and online retailers. Results show that while the perception of benefits increases the willingness to share personal data with service providers, it does not significantly reduce the negative effect of privacy concerns. These results are interesting because they contradict a widely held assertion in the literature that customers’ willingness to share personal data significantly depends on the perceived benefits.

  A survey of over 6000 passengers at 8 airports in Norway reveals strong interest in the use of digital technologies at all stages of the airport journey. Passengers are however moderately concerned about the risks associated with sharing personal data.

  Achieving partner’s acquiescence, that is, partner’s acceptance or adherence to the firm’s specific requests and policies is critical in interfirm exchanges. Using data collected from 129 dyadic relationships between inbound tour operators and their partner outbound tour operators abroad, the present study investigated the effect of partner’s irreplaceability and perceived distributive fairness on firm’s acquiescence and its implication on conflict level. Results show that partner’s irreplaceability and perceived distributive fairness is positively associated acquiescence, which in turn reduces conflict level. Interestingly, the effect of perceived distributive fairness on firm’s acquiescence was found to be larger than that of partner’s irreplaceability. Although not hypothesized, the direct effect of perceived distributive fairness on conflict level was found to be significant, suggesting that perhaps partner's distributive fairness also buffers against the mild incidences of partner’s misbehaviour.

  Offentlige anskaffelser er viktig for å lykkes med det grønne skiftet. I denne rapporten har vi prøvd å avdekke hvilken kompetanse og kunnskap som er viktig for å lykkes med grønne anskaffelser i samferdselssektoren. I tillegg kommer vi med forslag på hvordan kunnskap og kompetanseheving kan utvikles. Datainnsamlingen er tredelt. Først er en del norske og internasjonale rapporter gjennomgått for å avdekke kunnskap og kompetansebehov. Videre er det foretatt fokusintervju med en del ansatte i sektoren. Basert på disse intervjuene er en spørreundersøkelse om grønne offentlige anskaffelser gjennomført i samferdselssektoren. Undersøkelsen avslører at det er et høyt utdanningsnivå blant de som arbeider med anskaffelser innenfor sektoren. De ansatte vurderer grønne anskaffelser å være av vesentlig betydning og aktivt engasjerer seg i problematikken. Med hensyn til kompetanse og nivå av ekspertise, anser de ansatte sin egen kompetanse som moderat, selv om en mer kritisk tolkning kan indikere en viss grad av underprestasjon på dette området. Ansatte mener man har behov for mer kompetanse innen en rekke områder relatert til grønne anskaffelser, eksempelvis utarbeidelse av grønn anskaffelsesstrategi, generell kompetanse om grønne anskaffelser og kompetanse om regelverk. Respondentene gir også tilbakemelding på hvordan de ønsker at kompetanse og kunnskapsløft skal organiseres. Dette kan oppsummeres i tre deler, kortere kurs, deltakelse i kompetansenettverk og digitale tilbud. Universitets- og høgskolesektoren (UH) har en viktig rolle i form av å skape innhold i disse tilbudene. Hvem som skal organisere disse tilbudene tar rapporten ikke stilling til.
